Christian Education
Sunday School
Sunday mornings 9:00 AM - 9:45 AMThe Sunday School provides Christian Education for children in Pre-K through Grade 8th grade. Dedicated volunteers from our congregation use The Whole People of God curriculum to help our children understand the Gospel story and grow to be witnesses to the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ.
All classes first gather in the lounge for an opening object lesson and then split into smaller grade level groups for age appropriate lessons and activities. Class is closed each week in prayer.
In addition to exploring the Bible through the weekly lectionary readings and lessons, we show God's love by reaching out to our community through service projects. This past year the Sunday School has made baked good baskets for shut ins, made and handout Thanksgiving cards, assembled and donated toiletry gift bags, as well as donations for the food bank. We continue to develop church family bonds through activities such as sharing food, making Christmas decorations, Easter Egg hunt, and recreational activities such as bowling. The Sunday School class also participates in the Sunday morning church service monthly.
Registration forms for September Sunday School Class can be optained by calling the church office at 908-725-4545 or by email: urc@unitedreformedchurchsomerville.org

Go On A Mission Trip
Pastor Paul led a group of teens on a mission trip for a week of hard work as they served others this summer. From June 28th to July 4th, Pastor Paul was joined by Brendan Eckardt, Teddy Yohn, Shannon Cassidy, Tara Rose Cassidy, Nigel Lane, and Donny Stires for a mission trip to “Christ’s Outreach for the Blind” in rural Mt. Veron, KY. The United Reformed Church group partnered with youths from the Colts Neck Reformed Church, totaling a volunteer force of 60 teens and adults to make the 15 hour bus trek to Kentucky. “Christ’s Outreach for the Blind”, a camp started by Mike Gates, provides outdoor activities such as hiking and hunting in addition to other traditional camp activities for children who are blind and physically challenged. The United Reformed Church group helped complete projects such as putting up and applied polyurethane to 2 miles of fence, mucking animal stalls, clearing brush, general landscaping, painting, and roofing to help prepare the camp for their opening date in August. Some of the teens also worked in the local community Goodwill store. Despite the hard work, everyone had fun and enjoyed the fellowship of the new friends they met from Colts Neck Reformed Church. The week also included devotional time, bon fires, a trip to a local water park that also had go-karts and batting cages, a visit to the Colonel Sander’s original KFC, and a guided caving trip. Overall, it was a great experience and a wonderful opportunity to help do God’s work. Please stop by Fellowship Hall on September 20th to take a look at pictures from the mission trip. It sounds like another mission trip may be in the URC’s Youth group future!
