About Us

Welcome to the URC web site - please select a topic of interest from list to the right

Reformed Church in America congregations can be found in many shapes, sizes, and settings: large or small, informal or formal, traditional or contemporary, urban or rural.

Each exists to welcome others into a community of people who are worshiping Christ, growing in faith, and serving their neighbors. We invite you to visit an RCA congregation in your community.

This welcoming spirit is also at the heart of Our Call, the RCA's ten-year goal to revitalize existing congregations and start new congregations.

Reformed faith deals with the power of God in human life; it is faith that is continuous, communal, and centered in Christ. Learn more about Our Beliefs.

A Message From The Minister

Dear Members and Friends:

In the Revelation of John (closing book of the bible), a series of seven letters are sent to seven churches. Each of these contains an address, a descriptive phrase referring to the risen Lord, as well as a concluding promise and exhortation to the faithful. The sixth letter was sent to Philadelphia, a small town (and church!) in what is now present day Turkey. Listen to words of promise contained in this letter:

I know your works. Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. (Revelation 3:8)

The church in Philadelphia might have been small in membership but the members were large in activity and faith and devotion! Regardless of the circumstances in which they found themselves, they kept God’s word and remained true to their calling. And, because of their faithfulness, God set before them an open door, which no one would be able to shut!

I believe this passage has great meaning for United as we move ever deeper into this New Year. While we may not be a large church in terms of membership, we are certainly large in activity, faith and devotion! The Christmas collection for Heifer International netted $750 and enabled us to purchase a ‘knitting basket’ (two llamas and two sheep). During the same period, countless toys were received for the Jail Chaplaincy Christmas gift program. On Christmas Eve, we almost ran out of bulletins and, on Christmas Day, our facilities were used for a community dinner. Who can forget the Twelfth Night? Last Sunday, almost $1500 was received in a special collection for Haiti (with more still to come) and, on February 7th, our Youth Group and Sunday School will team up for a ‘Benefit to Haiti’ soup luncheon following worship.

Are we are perfect church? Certainly not! But I firmly believe that God ‘knows our works’ and has set before us an open door – an open door of ministry, an open door of opportunity – an open door which no one will be able to shut!

As with you, I thank God for his many blessings which are new every morning and fresh every evening. And as with you, I thank God for the ‘new thing’ being accomplished in and through our congregation

Your pastor and friend,

Rev. Paul Walther
